I'm with Ben on this one. The '89 325is is the most desirable non-M e30.

I didn't say "The best E30 to make into a track car", I said "The most desireable".

And while the '87 325iS/325eS is the best looking of the metal bumper cars, the fact is that plastic bumpers are more desireable than metal bumpers. Plain and simple.

You don't see a market for used metal bumpers do you? No, but there's a huge demand for used plastic bumpers.

I've forgotten more about E30's than you've ever known...you don't have to worry about wasting your time explaining things I already know.

I wish this were true; I have a 318is and a 87 325is. I think that more people want the 89 325is, plastic bumpers and no airbag is the winner.

I prefer a 89 325iX over a 325is... But I like snow in New York. As a 1974 2002 owner I see how the e30 is becoming the "new 2002" as far as being a cult car. The 02's just are collectables now. I like em though..

              I'd take the '89 325is with a M50 swap over a M3.

              Any day, any time.

You lost me there Ben, are you planning on parting the "most desirable" e30?
What makes the 89 the most desirable?
I would think the front clip on the 87 is would be pretty rare considering it wasn't really "made" by BMW. It was strapped on after thay came to the us. Then again, I am a diving board guy. Or lets just say a metal bumper guy.
                Yours truly,

                  I did part a rusted-out '89 325iS Automatic a few weeks ago.

The '89 325iS is the most desireable E30 because it is the latest car you can get without an airbag (except for rare cases like my roommate's airbag-less eary '90 325iS), it has popout windows, and it has ellipsoids...

Oh, and it's the newest E30 you can get without an airbag. Did I mention that?

Again, I said nothing of "rarity". I know the front spoiler on the '87 iS is rare and worth money; I sold one with mounting brackets for $300 a few years ago. However, the majority of E30 enthusiasts prefer plastic bumpers to diving boards. That's just the way it is.

                    Fix It!

If your motor still runs the popping noise is worn out cables, or out of sync cables. Mine did that, so I dropped the motor, adjusted the sunroof, reset the timing on the motor by cycling it until it was in the right position and reinstalled it. No more problem. Turned out that one of the screws that holds the motor came loose and fell out.

Thanks Jami! I think that is the route I will go; if I want to drop the weight later I can do that, but there is no reason to wreck things now.
