    Giving Up?

At what point do you realize or decide that you're driving a rolling parts car? Opinions and comments please!

The only thing that makes a car a parts car is non repairable body damage or rust. Anything else - fix it and move on to the next.

When you park it in the yard and use parts off it to get your other rolling parts car running. ;)

It becomes a parts car when you run out of money and you sell the parts to recoup your investment. It all comes down to economics and how much you are willing to invest in the vehicle. But one thing that I can say, (and to repeat what psloan said) if the body is clean, it's worth fixing. But I would add that its worth fixing if you have the money. I invested nearly $5000 in my E30 and this is a better car than anything else that I can buy on a used car lot for more money.

At the same time, if I was in for about $2000 on my E30 and I didn't have any more money to get it running, then I would start selling the parts to recoup some of my costs. Now if the car IS running and you have a source of income, then keep investing in your car. Every dollar spent on an E30 makes it a better car. The E30 is expensive to own and maintain but its worth every penny if you have the money.
