what's this $300 setup you speak of rob?

Tara needs a new muffler for her car, and I've heard good things about how yours sounds. Spill the beans.
My mountains are better than yours.

my setup was $90. total. $30 Thrush Turbo muffler (basically the same as the cheap Magnaflow, dynamax, whatever mufflers) + ~$60 at the local muffler shop getting it welded in place of the stock ca. I love the sound, much better than stock, quiet cruising and at low throttle, but it gets a nice roar once you break 4500rpms.....

I didnt care about performance, as i wont get any out of the m42, and this was a cost effective, good sounding (what I wanted), and actually light (smaller/lighter muffler) solution.

ok so pretty much i can buy a decent muffler..
go to a muffler shop (Midike..sp?)
have them cut off the old one (its rusted out)
they can intall the muffler and replace the pipes with cheap ones

Then i get to save money eh?

if all you want is sound, then yeah, just do that. if you want performance gains, have them muffler shop make you a whole new catback

depends on what you mean by downpipe. If you mean header back, then under $500 would be my estimate, including a new catalytic converter. If you mean cat back, then i'd say easily under $400

Horseshit, dynomax muffler, inexpensive resonator, and muffler shop piping and welding, and you can have a great sounding exhaust for definately under $300. I hear cars with such systems every day, hell my car has one.
I was actually referring to a fully packaged system such as a Remus catback, Supersprint catback, etc. I elaborated later that a custom (hence, DIY catback system) can be achieved at that price. Please read before posting.

i have a custom catback for an eta, PM me for pics. its got a stainless exhaust, but the tubing is steel. its also 2.5, instead of the stock 2"or whatever. it will bolt right up, because the flange is the stock size, but then the tubing, goes to 2.5". i never used it, but from the guy i bought it from, he said it cost him $500 for the parts and custom fab.

Yes you can. I ran one for my first year of racing, bit loud but cheap as hell and unless you looked under the car you couldnt tell I was running a $170 cat back built in Overland Park, KS.

Okay, it seems I wasn't very poignant in what my definition of a cat-back system was, as I just purchased a fully packaged system recently. Rob, all apologies.

dude, I think its fairly obvious. If you like that muffler and think it sounds good, great, get it and have it installed. As for the Stromung, its like any other muffler, its your personal preference as far as looks and sound are concerned.
