Puttin e tranny into i car, problems

Hello, I recently bought a 88 325is, 5 speed but it needs a new transmission. I went and pulled a tranny from a 85 325e. They are both getrag 260's but now I find out that the shifting console/mechanism is different. What have people done in the past and what will work the best for me? Can I go with an after market whole shebang? If so what would you get. Can I retrofit my I linkage onto the e? Or should I just go to a junkyard and get the metal console and will that work? Thanks so much guys!!!

Nothing has changed since you posted htis same exact question on Bf.c .

The early ERta trans does not have the ears on top for the late aluminum shift linkage .

If you want to use that trans then you'll have to revert to using the metal shift console from the early cars .
