New member and E30 owner FIRST POST

Hey everyone, I'm Jordan and about a couple weeks ago I got my first e30....It is a 1990 325I 5-Speed sedan...bone stock when I bought it. ~210K miles on the working odometer. Calypso red (I was told it is a little bit of a rare color?)

The fat woman who I bought it from had somehow managed to destroy the Passenger fender and door, which were both recently repaired (She also clued me in to the fact she called it Little Bessie)

In the past 10K miles this is what has been replaced on the car:
    -Tires
    -Fuel Filter
    -Timing Belt
    -Timing belt tensioner
    -Fuel Pump Relay
    -Fuel Pump
    -ECU DME
    -Glove Box
    -Radiator
    -Thermostat (80)
    -Valve Cover gasket
    -Heater Core
    -Heater Valve
-Various exterior and interior trim pieces
    -Front Passenger fender

I also installed Hella Smileys with Foglights.

    PROBLEMS:
-Car has electrical annoyances (Pretty much every fuse is new) Only one interior light turns on when I open the door, although both work. Half of my gauge lights work although I cannot replace the bulbs as the steering wheel cannot come off because the TORX screws are so rounded!
-SRS light sometimes blinks on check panel, sometimes is just stays on without blinking. (That is probably from some sort of accident...?
-Car has a little bit of an issue with cold starting, most of the time it starts up well, a few times it takes a couple cranks.
-I can hear some sort of air leak (intake?) when I am over the engine while it is running.
-The gauge lights will come on about 2-3 minutes after I have turned the headlights on, all other buttons light up (Windows, AC, etc.) But the Speed and Temp. lights come up later
-The car sounds like a damn sewing machine unless I am driving it hard.
-Clunking in steering wheel column while driving on dirt or gravel roads.
-Car doesn't have the best paint along with minor hail damage.

First off, I want to ask everyone what should be replaced so that the car is in good mechanical shape before I start to mod it. Some DIY articles on specific topics would be nice. A question I had is that I don't specifically want to put a front lip on the car, but I just want something like a black splitter or diffuser...Is that possible?

Anyways, I'm sure I forgot a lot of what I was going to say in here...But any questions/comments/criticism of the car is welcome. I am looking forward to becoming another addict to the E30 craze!

Sorry the car is dirty for the pictures, I will get better ones once it is daylight out:

yeah calypsorot is a popular color on R3vlimited. Maybe because it's rather rare, but i love it too.

Nice car, needs work. I really like the exterior/interior color scheme you got going on there. now only if you can get a sport leather gray interior. now you'd be set.

check out my post (a few posts down) it addresses alot of your issues. BTW i've never removed a steering wheel to take a cluster out.

                      Welcome! Nice color.

...did all those things get replaced while you had the car? If not,I'd make sure the timing belt was really changed.

The air leak is PROBABLY intake manifold gaskets, but take some brake cleaner and spray it in the intake gasket area, and around all of your vacuum lines. When the idle smooths out, you've found your problem.

Oh, and nice color. ;) Welcome to the site.

I am sure of all those things...As I have about $5K worth of reciepts for work done in past 10K miles.

I'm too afraid to really yank on the cluster with the steering wheel in, even if I did it seems that there just is not enough clearance.
