So....what to do?? Acura Integra - engine ?

So my sister sucks at life.

I got a call about 11pm last night from her. Supposedly she was driving, and there was a loud noise and a big cloud of smoke came from the engine. Knowing her, she's worthless and didn't pick up on any warning signs, and probably tried to drive it as far as possible before it wouldn't go any further. She mentioned when it went off, she tried to restart it.

So now I think she may have overheated the engine.....as it would have had no coolant pumping.....so what now? Repair? Rebuild? Replace? or Sell?

The first thing that came to mind: B16A. Cheap, and peppy, and not to mention the Integra is an auto.....but that could be fixed. Or sell it as is without motor and let someone else pull a motor swap - like a turbo'ed B20.

A buddy of mine's older brother has a source for JDM motors at pretty reasonable prices. You could have everything you needed for a b16 under 1500. Personally I'd get rid of the car if she has the means to pick up something else.

why would you want to modify your sisters car like that? does she have performance driving in mind? i would just leave it stock... anyways, i wouldnt spend anymore money than necessary on it if she just drives it as an A to B car.

I dunno. I said it was the first thing that popped into my head. It's what a fried suggested back in the day instead of buying a different car for myself. I'd most likely find a friend who wanted it and help him with the engine finding, etc. So pretty much sell it either way.

But she likes SUVs, like Explorer, Blazer.....so maybe she could pick on up, but I don't know of any she could afford.

It is still in some mall parking lot, and I won't know if the engine is fubar'd until the week.....but do you think it should tried to be repaired, or the engine replaced......or sold as is??

if its overheated, the head might be warped. just replace that and you might be good to go. I really wouldnt bother swapping motors on your sisters slushbox....

Alright, I wasn't too sure on what all is messed up on an overheated engine. So the block would be OK, just the head?

This might be a good excuse to sell it, but I wanted to know the options of repair. She doesn't really appreciate it, so it might go well for someone else.

              a) replace head (possibly vtec....if done by next owner)
              b) replace engine
              c) swap engine

me thinks possibly an tranny swap would be optional on b), c)

I really hope my sister, family decides to let this go to an eager ethusiant......
anyone want to help figure how much we can get out of it?
I'm guessing like private value minus cost of repair.....so we could evaluate our choices.

              THANKS GUYS

              edit:

whatever you put into the car, realize you'll never get that back if you sell it.

yeah, definately know that. Even though my mind returned to the high tech Honda NA power for a second.....we either need to repair it cheap or get rid of it.

I'd only probably attempt to help find engine, head, etc. Time to start talking to friends and see if any Hondaphiles are looking for a project......

My cousin's CRX was dead even with my car (in a straight line) but a full tank lasted over 2 weeks of flooring it, compared to my 3-4 days.

b18b's are cheap. drop another one in if she wants to keep it, sell it as a rolling chassis for some kid who wants a project otherwise.
