Rust removal. (pic) Updated info

Hey, I was looking at a car today. 1990 jetta 2.0 16V, yea. It had some surface rust on it little spots around the front quarter panel, above the license plate on the trunk and a little near the key. Again its surface rust; how much would it be to fix little spots like that? I know I would need an estimate to get the real deal but I need a range here. Thanks guys.

I agree with Ken. I would be a little concerned not knowing where more lurks. It seems that if there is even a little rust that's visible there is almost indefinately more that's even worse that you don't know about. Mk2's are fairly rust resistant and there are enough rust free ones out there that perhaps I'd keep looking. Another area you may want to look for rust is under the flares. There seem to be a lot of people that find assloads of rust under their fender flares. And by that I mean like whole fender lips gone which would suck alot. Nice choice in car though. Two liter GLI's rock :twisted: !

Where are the fogs? the grill is wrong for a 90 Jetta GLi 16V also. Look closer on this car. They make great cars but you need to know if it's been in a front ender, and maintance history of course.

It appears in the background that they do alot of repair work and for 3k it's a bit pricey. The seats if they are the large bolster units are to die for thou. They sell for $500 dollars still if in good condition if the electrics work.

Whats stock for the front spoiler? Ill go in for a closer check everwhere for rust.

It looks like it has the proper 16v big bumper front spoiler. Like Greg said though, the grille is incorrect and it should have fogs. Carfax is definately your friend with this car especially. Hope it turns out well though.

Does it have the Recaro interior? A friend of mine had a '91 GLi 16V with a sweetass Recaro interior (wasn't too keen on the colors though).

Only the 91-92 Jetta GLi 16v's had the big bolstered Recaro's.

Huh, seems kinda mismatched. I dont really care unless there is something im missing here. Its a VW performance kinda shop so maybe they put em in there to make the sale easier or something. Im not complaining.

The carfax was clean but didnt say anything (I think) about the odometer not working or the recent rear ender it was in. The shop did all the work thats probably why. If this car isnt up to par im gong to say to hell with it dont worry guys.
