Everyone always talks about how the E30 was a great car for its day, and it was. But BMW can't make one great car, then keep making that car and cars exactly like it for 30 years. Ford did that and look at how successful they are.

How many E30 M3s did BMW sell? Now look at how many E46 M3s they sold. The E46 M3 was also a great car for its day, but now it's time for something new. BMW has to keep up with the times, and they have to design cars that will sell. They can't appeal to every crowd, but if you're so dissatisfied with what they're doing, go sell your E30 and buy an Elise. You wouldn't want to represent a car manufacturer when you hate every single new car they make...

And what's wrong with the SMG? I mean aside from the fact that E30s didn't come with one, therefore you feel threatened by it. It's a pretty incredible transmission. It shifts quickly and precisely, and they're a blast on the track. But you wouldn't know, since your E30 doesn't have one, huh?

Tell me, what are BMWs "supposed to" look like? Boxy with round headlights? I'm sure that'd go over well in today's market. BMW designs cars for functionality. Practically every part of their cars has a purpose.

Now if you have to convince yourself that every car made after the E30 is a piece of garbage just to keep yourself from being miserable every time you see a nicer car, I understand. I'm sure it hurts to read this, but you know the new M5? It might be a huge, heavy boat full of useless technology, but it will outperform your "far superior" E30 every single time. It's okay though, everyone on R3v knows that the E30 was the greatest car ever built.

i think 2dr & 4dr M3 are both nice. the main thing is if you have $$$$$ to pay for it. that will be sweet.

I agree with Josh. I think the sedan just looks better, and wouldn't mind at all if it came with an M badge.

If they continued to style BMW's like they used to 15 years ago they'd be like GM.

I sort of agree with this. The M3 is supposed to be a driver's car, a driving funster. Not massaged with electronics like iDrive, ESC, DSC, etc. No automatics, ABS is fine, on-board computers are fine, but it's supposed to be like it's roots: E30 ///M3. The M3 is supposed to be a revered car, an icon. And the ///M5 is supposed to be it's four-door equivalent, the ///M6 its bigger cousin with more power and gizmos.

I would still take my/another good e30. Mine needs a motor, tranny, driveline and diff swap.

I don't care for the new M3. *yawn* sweet engine, but I don't want it. Playtoy, yes, would probably sell it in exchange for an S50 or something.

I'd rather take my current tired e30 rather than that M3. ANY DAY, rain or shine, sleepy or wide awake, hungry or full of food, tired or fresher than a new lettuce thing.

I don't want a single new car past the E38 end years. All pieces of ****. Boring. "well what if we (BMW) gave you the first M3 four door?" You'll find it up on eBay that night.

That's perfectly fine for its size/class IMO. It's not a REAL REAL sports car... I've driven one and it's amazing... loved every second of it, but it's no race car. An M3 should have more of that race car feel to it tho.

    Subaru and Mitsubishi. ;-)

As for a four door M3, I couldn't possibly care less. It's cute that everyone is that opinionated about it, though.

    Yes and no...
M3 is almost guaranteed to be a great car, always. But, E30s really are a joy to drive (well, when everything is still working, anyways).

My dad has a new E90 330i sedan... but would I take it over my E30 if given the choice? Probably not. But over a stock run-of-the-mill e30 325i? Sure.

The E90 is a great car, with awesome handling dynamics. But, it's not customized the way I like it, like my E30 is. Give me 10 grand, and I'd give the E90 an LSD, louder exhaust, and make sure it has the 6-spd and sport pkg. Then, it's a nice car.
Now, the E92 335i, that's really awesome, especially in blue and loaded with every option...

But in direct answer to your statement, I would be hard-pressed to turn-up a new M3, coupe or sedan.

The m5 is the worlds best saloon. I just think the m3 should be the best coupe. I mean since the 3 series ballooned to its current proportions its still a huge fucking 2dr. and josh your opinion is wrong :)
