          And road flares.

That is one badass car. How many were produced?

455 total. 399 were road cars, the rest were race-prep models.

There were two produced without VINs, Group 5 cars.

            Other details from www.bmwm1.com:

First car completed on July 10th, 1978
Last car completed on Feb.13th, 1981

All VINs have the same 14-digit prefix (WBS59910004301XXX) with individual 3-digit suffices. The entire production range used numbers 001 to 460, with seven numbers never used (045 to 049, 428, 431) and two Group 5 race cars built without VINs.

EDIT: Check the avatar... I've been rocking that ever since Korman. Photo was taken by SpoonE30.

The dealership here in Bend has a red one. 11,000 miles on the clock. Production number is in the early hundreds.
