    stupid ricer question....

Just out of curiosity, just how fast are all of thses swapped E30s? As in any quarter mile times for M30s, M50s, and so on? I'm not into drag racing by any means nor do I think most of you are, I'm just trying to grasp how quick these cars are. I'm probably gonna park my car in the garage this winter and either do a swap or maybe a turbo setup. I don't have a million bucks but I'm not poor either. I just want a really fun street car that isn't going to cost a ton to build. Thanks,

    Ryan

    i run a 2.3 second...................60 foot.......

swapped m50 e30s are alright, s5x's are pretty quick.

and turboed e30's are fast if done right.

E30's CAN be fast cars, if they are done correctly with the right parts.
Stock 325i E30 5spd will do 15.5-16 secs in the quarter mile. M50 cars are probably low 14's, S50 cars in the mid-high 13s.
I have a turbo M20 in my car, dynoed at 305rwhp last time I checked it, but should be more like 360rwhp with my latest mods. This makes for an E30 that CAN achieve low 12sec quarter mile times.
I built everything on my car myself, except for my downpipe and my MS1 ECU. I have roughly $7k into my engine including rebuild, turbo, engine management, clutch, flyhweel, water injection, intercooler, pipes, ect. For $7k to swap an M/S50 you will have an engine putting down roughly 250rwhp (schricks, euro hfm, 24lbers, S50, ect). Turbo M20's can be done for less, and will make more power if done correctly. They are not easy to do by any means. I am a BMW tech at the dealer, and I have messed with E30's for over 6 years now. My turbo has challenged me in more ways than any other car has before, but the end results are so worth it that I wouldn't want it any other way.
      Hope this helps.

turbos are cool, i was leaning towards that before i did my swap also. but i just dont have the time or experience to make adjustments or fab anything. so a swap car fit a lot better.

ryan: how much torque are you making? comparable to a s50?m52?

he probably making close to equal torque to his HP #'s. would blow an s52'd e30's doors off.

what about M30s guys? I know I know, I'm searching. They seem to be a great motor, even greater if down the road I decided to turbo it. hmmmm

Most E30's aren't built for straight line acceleration as the main goal.
Ask BMW owners what they like about their cars.
Chassis setup and modding is as important for drag racing as it is for road racing. As an example a TransAM series racer with 605 HP in a 2600 pound car ran the quarter in the high 11's and low 12's as setup for Road Atlanta or Road America.

I'm addicted to the sound in my F250 Powerstroke work truck.

I don't know how long I can go without it in my car! OH NOES! lol

I know what you mean. I'm just trying to get a general feel for how quick swapped or turboed cars are. An ET will usually give you a good idea.

Is it tired? How many miles?

                        Many many factors.

Turbo m30 would get you big, reliable hp for cheap...but throw off your handling more than other swaps.
