And just a FYI for the noobs , on our cars 4th gear is 1:1 while 5th gear is overdiven . :neutral:

It is still a 5 speed though without overdrive. Overdrive is a separate unit after the transmission that uses a planetary gear set (usually) to lower the overall gear ratio. On most cars with OD, you can engage it in more then one gear.

For example, MGB's had an option of coming with an OD. You could turn it on in 3rd or 4th gear, basically giving you 6 speeds (1,2,3,3OD,4,4OD).

Also, overdrives generally only come with cars without a gear that is overdriven like you stated, which is most 5 speed manual gear boxes. This is why you usually only see OD in cars with auto transmissions (4 speeds).
