We drove our IS with no muffler for almost a month. The stock one rusted off where the pipes come into the muffler so we tore it the rest of the way off. It actually sounds pretty good until you get to about 5k, then it gets ridiculously loud. Nice deep rumble, though. :D

I drove my car for a couple weeks with just a 3in downpipe on it... LOUD!

I cruised for an hour and a half in the back seat of a boosted e30 on a 3.73 at 95mph. At the time all it had was a downpipe with a 90 degree bend pointing straight to the floor. Talk about resonating!!!

I still have nightmares about it.
