This is why I will not use PayPal.

I may set up a separate account at my bank just for such tomfoolery.

Something like this happened to my buddy...but for about $4500.

    Fuck PayPal

    Closing SOON!

Paypal is safe, peoples accounts get "hacked" when they sign on from an email sent to them saying "validate some information". This validation site looks exactly like Paypal but the web address is funky, once you sign in they have your account info. Ive been using paypal since '03 and have never had an issue, I even run my online store through them cause they offer great merchant tools for free. Paypal operates just like a bank, their site security is the same as most of the major banks out there, they just dont have a walk-in building.

I've been a member since '99 and I never had a problem. The way that many people get hacked is that they use the same password for every single internet account.

For instance, let's say I am JScotty@aol.com and my password is 'beamup'. Then I go register at paypal. They require you to use your email address as your login. And then for the sake of simplicity, I will use 'beamup' as the password for my paypal account too.

Then I start using this same username/password convention for every other website that I visit and register for. Even the sites that give out free music and free videos of my favorite singer- Except for the fact that these are really bad guys behind the scenes who use their site to harvest email addresses and passwords. And being that its commonly known that most people use the same password for everything, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you registered on their site using your AOL email address, the password that you used was probably the same one for AOL.

PayPal is just as safe as any credit card. Whether that is safe enough for you or not, that is the question.
