engine reseal

Hello, I am doing all the seals and gaskets on my engine/tranny except the head gasket, does anyone have any tips or things to watch out for? I have carb cleaner but Also what kind of compounds/grease etc....do I need to get to do this job right? Thanks friends.....

Have you ever done this before? Do you have a Bentley manual?
How many mils on the engine?
Are you using a lift or will you be on your back?

I have the bently, there are 200,000 on the car. I already have pulled the engine and tranny out of the car to do this job. I am used to working on honda's where I just use honda bond on the gaskets and reuse all the bolts etc. I was wondering if you guys use special grease in areas, what you guys use on the gaskets if anything. Also I am putting a new clutch in while I am at it and was wondering what bolts nuts can be reused and what cant? Thanks

Gasket seal on some, I would thoroughly read the bentley before doing anything, or search the m20 engine and drivetrain threads.

My bentley and car are at my brother in laws where we are doing the job, the engine is on an engine stand and I was just seeing what odds and ends to pick up to do the job.

Also, I ordered everything from pelican parts but I couldn't find a rear main seal there all that I could find was a rear crankshaft housing seal but not the rear main itself, I went to autozone and they had one for 19 bucks but I would rather support pelican. Any help?

Also I am putting a new clutch in while I am at it and was wondering what bolts nuts can be reused and what cant? Thanks

The bentley manual says to use new flywheel bolts, but every BMW shop I've talked to says to just reuse the bolts since are they are not stretch bolts.

As for the gaskets, I like to use the red gasket spray from Permatex.
Make sure to torque everything to spec.

Yes, the most important thing is that you have a torque wrench and that it's accurate.

Remember the tightening sequence in all aluminum parts, you might bend them if you don't follow the pattern. ;)
