anyone know how to hotwire their e30?

Lost my key, and apparently the ignition has been replaced in my car because I have a different key for the locks and for the ignition and the key I got cut from BMW is for the locks. The dealer says they can't cut me a key that isnt registered to my vin.

so, while I figure out what to do (get a key made somewhere else, get a new ignition/key set, etc) does anyone know how I can hotwire my e30 :D?

I had to hotwire my E30 once when my key broke.

It is surprisingly easy....Look it up online.

I have, just wondering if anyone knew the exact wire colors of the ignition and starter wires.
Also, how to get the steering wheel unlocked

Option #1. Get a BMW decoder key set-

          Option #2. Call a locksmith.

Option #3. You can pop open the steering collumn and remove the ignition switch from the ignition lock and then turn it with a key or a screw driver. Just be careful not to hold the metal terminals while starting the car, they can get very hot against your skin. That will get the car started but unfortunately the steering wheel will still be locked. You might have to drill out the lock to free the wheel.

            Not legally speaking it isn't

Don't rip apart your car just to get it started. Call a friend and get a ride. You do have friends don't you?
Call a locksmith and shell out the green.

Oh and if you have two seperate keys, how in the hell did you lose the ignition without the door keys? Do you have keyless? When was the last time you had the key anyway?

Yes, I have friends, but they dont live that close to me and my work/class schedule is different every day. I carpooled with my wife today but even that doesnt work out the greatest because she will have to kill 2 hours after work waiting for me to get out of class (going home and coming to pick my up is kind of stupid since home is 30 minutes away).

and I'll be calling locksmiths in a bit but from past experience they dont seem to be the speediest around here and for some reason most say they cant make a bmw key, eventhough they know its an older bmw without the laser cut keys...

I have a little steering wheel key ring that has a spring loaded latch on it. SOMEHOW, the ignition key popped off the ring... dont ask me how JUST that one fell off.

Ahhh like a valet key huh....
My suggestion.... budget auto rental and a locksmith.

How much does an ignition lock for the E30 cost? You might be better off drilling out the lock with a 3/8" drill bit just so you can keep going and then check the junkyards for a car with the key still in the ignition. Pulling the lock and installing it in your car is relatively easy.

You should be able to start the car by jumping two pins on the diagnostic plug in the engine bay... pins 11 and 14 iirc on the E28 and E24, but look it up first so you don't break anything.

The only issue then is the steering column lock. If you can get that disengaged you will be home free!

to unlock the steering wheel you just put a screwdriver between the back of the steering wheel and the steering wheel cover and push up on it til it disengages.

Well there we have it, start the car from the engine compartment, pop the steering wheel lock and you don't need no stinking keys!

Are you guys serious? Take your title or registration + driver's license to the dealer and they'll provide a key for you. Problem solved. I doubt it's more than what a locksmith will cost.
