What I initally noticed too.

I smell BS - if this thing really got to him, then he could just get it fixed proper & put it on consignment at a lot where he'd never see it until he got much more than the $5500 asking, even with a dealer surcharge.

Maybe call him, but tell him you're local & seeing it in person before a dime changes hands, see if that rattles loose a few more lies/red flags. Tell him you want the title that day & you have cash in hand, I bet it's a fish story.
