Shipping an engine coast to coast- who's done it recently?

I need to get some shipping quotes to ship a complete M52Tu from NC to CA.

Looking for input from people who have shipped something large like this recently. I'd much rather hear from folks with actual experience with this than "I've heard such and such" or "a friend of a friend told me this".

Any recommendations on who to use or who to avoid? This will be the complete engine strapped to a pallet (or whatever the shipping company requires for shipment)- so I'm thinking a trucking company would be the best bet.

    Thanks!

Forward Air is probably your cheapest and safest bet. They ship stuff like that all the time. I've used them several times to ship motorcycles. The only catch is you have to bring it to one of their terminals, and the receiver has to pick it up at one of their terminals. Should be around $400 to $500.

For what its worth...All I do know is you need to check what freight companies are able to ship from your location to the location where it is going or coming from. Knowing this reduces the amount of companies that are capable of getting the freight from point A to B. I had this problem getting a quote for a freight shipment on something entirely different. Just a heads up

I have used a few LTL carriers in the past. PJAX, has done good service for me. Their only requirement is that you have to provide a loading platform and a method for getting the pallet on the truck. Having access to a warehouse and forklift is ideal however if this does not work for you, Xpedx has liftgates on their trucks and the driver brings a pallet jack. They are a little bit more expensive but they require less on your part.

The last time I shipped something the size of an engine via PJAX, they charged me $380 to ship from DC to LA and it took about 4 days to get there even though they estimated 10.
