    325 questions

i am looking to upgrade from the 325e that i currentlly own. i am looking at 2 other e30's, one being a 86 325es and the other being a 87 325 with no letter saying if its an "e" or "i". my questions are 1. on the 325es is the lsd 2.93 or did they change to 3.73 by that time. 2. on the 87, is that the so called super eta and if it is, what exactly is it. i know its a combo of "e" and "i" parts but i dont know which.

    Get an i.

I'm not sure about the LSD, but no i or e designates and eta as well.

        1) the 86 325e has an 2.93 lsd. ALL 86-88 etas have 2.93 diffs. (84-85 had 2.79)

        2) No its just an eta. '88 was the only year of the super-eta

From what others have told me, a 325 (without the i or e) makes for a difficult situation when buying certain parts because the average parts counter only has listings for the e, es, i and ix.

The 325 with no e is the same as a 325e. I have had a 325e and I now have a 325 and they are exactly the same. Go to strictlyeta.net to see the differences between models.

You should get a 325i. That is the one with the power. A 318i will rev higher, but is not a huge power increase like a 325i will have. You could do some minor upgrades to the eta to make it a pretty quick car. The torque is nice to have from the eta. A chip, a 3.46 or 3.73 diff, injectors, intake, m30 afm and a good tune up should make the car much more responsive and have more power. About 10-15 more to the wheels with that combo, depending on the condition of your motor.

              Super eta 1988 only

I driven my super eta for 9 years and I know one thing for sure its all about the torque. The 1988 325 used the 325i cylinder head with an upgraded Motronic 1.1 engine output system. It has seven camshaft bearings in place of the five-larger intake valves and less restriction in the catalytic converter exhaust system, the rpm was lifted to 5,500rpm a thousand higher than the originals. It may not super fast but it will throw you back in your seat.

Real simple. Get the i or just make plans to put an M5x in there. I still think the "i" would be a better starting point for anything.

I have an "e" and I've driven a few "i" cars and some 318s. I like all of them, but would I call any of them fast? No. If you want a daily you can have fun with that's always going to treat you well no matter what, get an e. If you want to go balls out and build a toy, well, go for an i, seems like the best starting point.

If you want to go balls out it doesn't matter what you get, your going to be replacing the engine anyways.
