Power of a generic Grand Prix GTP with mods

-I used to work with a guy who has a GTP, but he wasn't a douche or a retard about it. It may not have lots and lots of power but I've driven it, had a smaller pulley, intake and cat-back and it had nice pick-up. Not crazy fast but not really too slow. It outruns my stock autobox '89i, hehe. -
Knew a kid that had an older GTP, although he wasnt dumb enough to think the tranny cooler was an intercooler, he straight traded it for an old ass Toyota corolla GTS. His Pontiac wasnt the greatest but this corolla sucks!
Bad paint, interior shot to shit, and it has a huge exhaust (obviously not needed) that is about to fall off the car.
Oh and the radiator is cracked because one night it broke down and he had a friend tow it back to his house with his truck and they hooked the tow straps up to the radiator and pulled it by that......

Check and see if theres a service bulletin out for that year trans your mom has. There was an updated bracket for the shift solenoids. They usually broke off and fell in the pan.Leave a comment:

-My mom drives an Olds Aurora, which has a 4.0 Northstar DOHC 32v motor with 250 hp. Nice car accually. But it does have close to 150k now and the tranny IS starting to crap out.
-So not ALL GMs are trash.Leave a comment:

Are you talking about one of these??
Im sure its awesome to Ricky the Racer who is getting a huge Oil/interFooler from Japan on an American car!
Just wait till he buys an electric supercharger!!!
You should tell him to get NOS!!!

The 4T80E isn't bad at all, they rarely have problems in Northstar V8 cars. The 4T60 and 65s blew up a good bit though. The 4T65 should have been the trans behind the Cadillac 4.9L V8 (which puts out 200hp as well, for the same reasons as listed above. LOTS of torque though) They are usually known for munching a trans around 130k. Shame as that usually totals the car, even though the engine has a lot of life left in it.Leave a comment:

Well thoes are crank numbers not WHP
1st its a push rod engine with shitty heads
2ed has all lower end power, think 5500 red line
3 the bigest reason GM's Hydromatic division cant build a FWD auto tranny that can live behind more than 240 hp for long.
The best GM V6 is the NLA cobbled togeather 3.4l DOHC found in the 93-97 monte carlos an 92-96 GTP's . It is based on its push rod twin sharing the same block. But the 95-96 has a much better head (massive oval ports) that in stock for will flow enough air to support 400hp. they were detuned to 230 hp IIRC (from a planed 280+) just because hydromatic could not build a tranny in the 3 years they had to develop it before the 3.4 DOHC was put into productionLeave a comment:

My buddy has a GTP. Its decently fast, but a pig of a car, FWD doesn't help either. He put a smaller pully on it, and did a few other small mods. He said the GTP trannys are weak as hell and if he did much more it would just explode. Anything over 250whp your tranny will just die.
Maybe I know the only non-dousch GTP owner? lol
Hes a smart guy, knows his shit, easily knows a tranny cooler isn't an intercooler lol. I think hes just about car audio these days and put his dreams of a super fast GTP behind him.Leave a comment:
