    shop wanted 1000$ to fix.

Last week I sold an 87 325e. The kid drove it home and the next day the calls started. First the car would not start, he got a jump.T he next day took it to a shop his family had used for years. The alternator was bad. The shop also said the temp unit was bad and needed a new sending unit. I asked if the car died if you disconnected the positive. "they did not do that" the kid tells me. After replaced the sending unit and it not fixing anything they called BMW, they are told it would be 900$ for the parts. I tell the kid to bring it back and I would look at it. Another phone call and now the started was bad. WTF. I said bump start it and get it to me. They could not get it to start.
So I drive to Hillsboro Friday afternoon. I get there and after a few checks, I push the car, hit second and the car start right up. The next day I get it in to my shop and start checking for a bad ground. The ground from the body to motor was loose I tighten it and try the car. It start, every thing works fine. I was beside my self that they did not check this. Well after fixing it so fast I told the kid lets put in the shocks and spring he bought from me. He leaves two hours later with a e30 well on its way to being a cool car.

thats nuts. they probably just wanted to run him out of there so they didn't have to work on that old piece. Props to you though for going out of your way to hook him up!

Grammer has been addressed, so aside from a "attaboy" - I hope you made it clear you aren't going to be their personal AAA roadside service down the line, unless that's what you want to do.

Big $$$$$ estimates are exactly for what you suspect - if a shop is busy enough with cut & dried type work, why take on a "chase the issue" type thing?

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

I just sold my e30 about a month ago to a local guy and ive had about 15-20 phone calls already. I dont mind helping him out with somethings but ive gone well out of my way already, even hooked him up with a ton of free parts after the sale. Ive about had it, people need to realize that when they buy a car "as is", it means just that.

Since ive bought my e34 ive had to replace a ton of shit, but I dont call up the PO everytime I have to replace or fix something.

                    /end rant
