    R3Ved the E36... kinda

My girlfriend has been driving the '94 325i everyday to work about 50 miles each way. This 4-door beauty has 289k miles on her and still purrs like new. The car, not the girlfriend. Hehe.

Well, tonight we had finished scrubbing the shit out of the place we just moved out of nd decided we were hungry. So we went to get some pizza before hitting up the supermarket.

The girly was driving, and right as we got off the freeway and made a left turn over the bridge, BAM!! This chick in a black Mercedes runs the red light and her front driver side nails our front passenger side. As we stopped, I was about a foot away from the girl's window and just gave her this horrid "I fuckin' hate you" look.

So we got all her info, and it turns out it's her boyfriend's car. And she's not insured on any insurance policy at all. So either way, I'm hoping to get some kinda dough out of it.

We were able to drive the car to get pizza and groceries, but I could tell the wheel was bent. The front's pretty fucked up, too.

Oh, well.. I guess it coulda been worse. So does the boyfriend's insurance company owe us some money? Or should we take it to claims court wih the chick personally?

"If I were filthy rich I'd still drive my E30."

    Ouch man.

It is really stupid to drive without insurance. It's even stupider to run a red light.

His insurance will cover it - just file a claim with them and keep small claims as a backup...

Sorry to hear about the car. I'm looking at a black 4-dr tan interior 95 325i tonight... are they good cars? it has 178k on it, 5-spd... bone stock...

The E36 is a pretty solid car. If the cooling system is replaced every 75K or so, it will last a long, long time to come.

Haha, I love that show! I know the exact face you are referring to.

Yeah, I'm letting my gf do all the calling and claims and such. I'll call and bitch at someone if need be. The good thing is that some crazy guy ran up and said "I saw it all!! Here's my card. I'll be a witness. Now get your cars out of the road!!"

The E36 is a hell of a workhorse. It always starts and goes and feels solid no matter what I put her through. If the frame isn't bent, I plan to turn it into an M3. I am in love with 4dr E36 M3s. The 2dr just doesn't have the same appeal for some reason.

            This is the desired look.

Why not just buy a m3 4dr... would be ALOT less work any money than converting a tired base model...

BINGO! seriously consider how little a titled non-M with a quarter million on the odometer will be worth before you go to all that work.

It's one thing to build a M2, or a 24v E30, but to build a car they made from the factory is working your nuts off & dumping cash you'll never get back.

Think about it like this - if you had already done all that work, would the insurance company who is paying off the current accident give you real M3 money, or the value of a older non-M?

By the time you buy a wrecked M & do all the work, you'll be in nearly just buying one with a real M title.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

No, I'm actually talking about the whole sh'bang. I guess you are all correct, but I really like the work part of it. I'm just in love with this car.

So scratch it and buy a project M3? It's hard to find a 4dr that's not totally R3Ved for a good price.

If you're willing to bust nuts to build one, then buy any of them that came as a AT & swap in a 5 or a 6 speed. That way you know that motor hasn't ever been even mildly moneyshifted. Or spend the few $K extra for a truely nice one you will keep for a decade or more.

Unless you're one of those habitual car buyer & seller types. I try to do as little of that as possible, if for no other reason than to avoid the sales tax.

I sincerely will drive my Landcruiser into a grave, and my BMW is my side car that I have zero intentions of ever selling.

289k? get the money, make the car run and drive it into the ground. No point in repairing or losing the car as it obviously still drives.

If suspension components are bent, and I'll bet a dollar against two pennies they are he'd be very smart to replace them before he drove it.

And back to Linus' comment, he'll still be driving that Landcruiser ten years from now. You can't kill those things.
