getrag 260 from e to i compatability problems

I had posted this in transmission but I thought I would move it here for a fast answer..... anyhoo , I posted

Hello I was searching and read on e30 tech

"You have to run a different T/O bearing since the actual eta bell housing is alittle differently shaped. I beleive it is from the 533, but definately check that one out. James Criv on R3v knows the part number for sure."

When using an e 260 in an i, Please tell me its not true!!!! Thanks

Then darkwing6 posted "if you are using a 260 that came from an e in an i you need a e28 (i think) to bearing. if you want to order one call patrick at BMA and just tell him you need the to bearing that james crivellone used with his tranny."

I have just put the engine and tranny back in the car and I am about to hook up the driveshaft then I hear read shit!!!!! please someone tell me It will work.........I beg you!!!! Also I am using my flywheel from the I.......and I really dont want to have to pull the tranny again!!!!!!! Thanks peeps....I am about to loose it!!!!!!!!!!!

I call shenanigans on the bell housings being different. I also don't think you need a special release bearing but I'm not sure.

I have an 86 325es tranny in my 89 325i, on the t/o bearing unfortunately I don't have a part #, but I happened to have a brand new one laying around that looked identical to one that came in the tranny so I used it.

I don't think you can go wrong, but as long as the flywheel/clutch/pp/to bearing are for the same car I think you're golden.

You will need a new T/O berring because of the diffrent flywheels. i have the part number at my old shop cause criv and i did a swap there.

But im sure he will post it up before i can find it so im not gonna look.
Your right though it is from the E28

Eta trannys are still Get260's, so you will need the same throw out unless you use the Eta clutch and flywheel.

I have mismatched all that crap a whole bunch of times, and it all worked everytime in the end.

last swap was a 320i euro trans-- different than both the 325i and e trans. a 325i flywheel, a 325i clutch and 320i throwoutbearing. all of this on a supereta motor.

it was such a mix because these parts were the nicest looking from the 1000000 parts I had laying around.

I needed the 320i driveshaft(trans is shorter) and a wider carrier bearing from the eta earlier model.

throwout bearing is a throwout bearing. I have never seen a noticable difference in any of them.and the pilot bearing was the same for them both too.

I tried to change the output flange on mine. S eta had a large diameter guibo, 320i had a smaller. problem was the splines were much smaller on the 320i trans. it didnt work. the reason other reason I had to change driveshafts.

could be the seal where the shifter rod comes out. always seem to leak from there too.
