    BMWCCA/roundel - worth it now-a-days?

I'm thinking of getting BMWCAA membership again, back in the day (1980's - 1990's) it was the only way to see cool BMW's in print (no real internets back then kiddies)

Anyone subscribe to it now? Is it still a bunch of old farts complaining about bangle, and and how their new M5 lost or is loosing it's new car smell too quickly?(or other bull crap)

Post up if you are a member...

I'm not triple your age. And if everyone thinks that, the CCA will dry up and die like all the old geezers in it. ;)

BMWCCA needs young blood, and if it doesn't get it, I don't know whats going to happen. Just got back from ofest myself, and had a blast. To me, it's worth it! :D

I'm 32 years old and I've been a member for at least 10-11 years now. The main reason I'm a BMW CCA and BMW Club of Canada member is because I love the high-performance driving schools. I also instruct with a couple of Porsche clubs, an Audi club, a SAAB club, NASA, and a few others: the BMW clubs run the best events by far. That alone makes membership worth it for me.

On top of that, I go to the monthly meetings, weekend cruises, etc. And I love the Roundel. Sure, they've got articles about new cars. But they've also got articles about guys who mod and race older BMW's. And they've got excellent coverage of BMW CCA Club Racing and SCCA World Challenge. And the classifieds are a great way to get hold of hard-to-find parts.

Overall, it's definitely worth the ~3 bucks a month it costs to be a member.

That's not true at all. I was the president of our chapter (BMW Club of Quebec) when I was still in my 20's and driving a heavily modded Evo VIII. A huge chunk of our membership is in their 20's and 30's. A smaller percentage are in their 40's and 50's. Hardly any are 60 and up.

Most guys join because they want to do track events. Most are car nuts. Most spend their days modding, rebuilding, and tuning their cars for performance (not for show). Almost all of them will auto-cross or track their cars regularly.

The weirdest thing is that around 1/3 of our members don't even drive BMW's. They're members because they're addicted to the track and we run the best track events at the best tracks in the region.

If you've never been to a BMW CCA or BMW CC event, you're really missing out.

I am a 2 year member and signed my son up. Which means I am old enough to have a son who drives.

Our local CCA leans more toward the older crowd. Yet, we have a fair share of younger enthusiast. I think by and large, CCA tends to be more of a conservative crowd and less forum oriented.

The membership entitles me to certain benefits like dinners and events, The real perks are the cars and the people who drive them. Also we help put on Winterfest and other race events at Sebring, etc.

I am always getting "no longer needed" parts for free, cheap or trade. Example, I just traded a set of late model E30 tails for a true pair of OEM Recaros. Rims are all over every home garage you go to. You go to the member's home garage for help and beir. It's almost like what we do on this forum but in person. Members are people and some I like and some are just way too conservative for me.

My Tech is a member and he is always helping other members for a beir. In our CCA a plus is the MILF factor. Roundel is a good mag. Recently they did articles on the E30. I haven't found too many other mags where the E30 was written up.

For the money, I would def join.

I'm on my second year of membership. I like getting Roundel, and if you have to go to the dealer, you get the discount on parts. They are not all about new cars either. My two favorite issues had an '02 on the cover and then blunt and superduper's e30s.

                          I <3 it.
The local group here is really the "country club set", but the dealership is the shiz.
