    how to test Xenons?

How can you tell if Xenons are good or not? We were throwing away a pair of either 5 or 7 series headlights at my work, since I believe one was cracked. And the fire marshall made us clean out our "storage room", which is also the room for our main circuit breaker. so instead of throwing out the lenses, I noticed they had a Xenon Ballast on the back, so I decided to keep em. Anyway of testing the bulbs and/or ballast to see if theyre good?

And would that even work on the E30? (assuming they are good)

they probly wont fit in any e30 headlights without some modification

I mean how can you tell if the Ballast is still good? I took the cover off the lens, so the bulb looks good, doesnt look burnt out. Is there anyway to tell if its good?

And if its good, would E39 Xenons work with our E30s? Since I believe the stocks are 9006 Bulbs, rather than H1s. I just dont wanna go trying to install shit, with it not being able to work in the first place. And just be in a wiring mess.

Or maybe Id be better off just selling the headlights with Xenons included, and buying a Xenon kit.

Grab a batter and some wire with alligator clips on them.
Put power to the ballast and they should come on.

edit: also, get a new HID bulb for the ellips and run the wires going from the ballst to the bulb to the new bulb.

find someone with an E39 with stock HID's and plug them in.

or you could just get a car battery and try to run the leads through a fused line?

            I'm pretty sure E39's had 12volt systems?

it probably wouldn't be to hard to physically get eh bulb to fit in an E30 headlamp, you'd probably want to get an extra set of housings though since you probably wouldn't be able to revert back if it didn't work.

yay, so they work. apparently we defected a lot of E39 headlights because they would cloud.

Now how to wire them properly ;\

I guess within the first 10k miles, all headlights are allowed to be "defected" if they get scuffed, cracked, etc. So we have tons of lights I have free range at. From E39 to E60, all with HIDs, are available, since BMW doesnt request them back. Kinda interesting if i could make em work, and slang/trade em for stuff.

All the sets I have and can get, will be complete with Ballasts, and wiring from ballast to bulb. How you get power and what not to the ballast is the only issue. It looks like they just take a 9006 plug, that comes stock with E39s, that goes to the ballast, then the ballast has its specific wire to the HID bulb.... I think....

I'd be down for everything needed to convert a factory halogen setup to xenon in my e39. PM me with what you have.

Topless, theyre not the new sexy style though. theyre the original "pre-facelifted" ones. But with HIDs none the less.

PM me with what you guys have. Currently in my posession, I only have the E39 set, and will be bringing home the E60 set tomorrow. Im gonna do some checking up on the ROs, and see what the alleged defects were. The parts manager said that most were just BMW customers scuffing or scratching some of it up, and wanting new lights. But we will see what the ROs say. I'll keep you posted.
