    Mustang Guys, Question for you

I am looking to pick up a beater 5.0 GT fox body. I was just wondering at what RPM the stock 5.0L will stop making power? 6500ish?
I would ask on the generic local forum but they are a bunch of flaming douche bags who can't take any one asking simple questions.

From the Mustangs that I have been around, I would be willing to bet that they stop making power around 5700-6000. Not many people I know even take their GT's up over 6.

6000 is usually safe, the factory rev limiter kicks in at 6300 if it has the EFI on it.

my fox body red lined at 6k I believe but i never took it so far as to make it bounce. Stock I'm sure power is dropping off before 6k. The factory heads/intake manifold/exhaust don't flow very well at all.

Its been awhile since I've looked at 5.0 Mustangs (I almost bought a new one in '88), but realistically the power falls off quickly after 4500rpm. The peak power was 225hp at only 4000rpm, and was known more for its torque. Stock, they were quick for their day, but realistically they were a low 15 second 1/4 mile car.

To the OP, how much is the fox bodys you're looking at? Cause i know the prices of the 4th gen LT1 camaro's/firebirds have fallen pretty good. Plus they get good gas mileage with the 6 speeds. I can get 28mpg (on the highway as long as i stay under 72mph)out of my 96 Formula with the bolt on's that i got on it, LT headers,ORY pipe, Hooker cat back, 1.6RR, ram air, and so on.

Stock 5.0s are done by 5k, they have eta-like powerbands. I don't know why the stock rev-limiter went to 5900, but its funny to rev them that high because they sound like they're straining to stay together at that rpm!

my buddies 5.0 95 gt runs damn good from 2k to about 5700, and i would never take it past there cause it drops of horribly, with the vavle springs they have, the valves start floating a little over 6 anyways
