    Frats? Yes or No

I've gotten a few letters from frats at Purdue. What's everyone's opinion on them?

Depends on school you go to...

Some are completely Greek and basically your greek or not.
Others (the better schools) have more low-key frats where it is not so much a big deal.

I plan on joining one, only to have a house to chill in.

Final Words: They really are boring and dumb. :?

I wouldnt join one. Im not really one who needs to be in a group. I can get along with some fratguys but soo many are like guys with overbearing girlfriends. They have to bend to the will of the group.

There are some associate memberships that dont involve paying or living with them. It just means you are invited to some of thier functions. I have managed to become an associate member to a few of them somehow.

They are a great way to meet easy girls but the frathouse lizards are hardly the cream of the crop.
        Im now E30less.

It really depends on what the school is like. Here at UofOregon, there are quite a few frats, but the whole greek scene isn't that big. It isn't exclusive at all. Try it out if you want, it isn't like you have to stay in it forever.

I went through all four years of school without attending a single frat party, and my college experience kicked serious ass.

I'm not a huge fan of generalizations, but frat guys are 'generally' not the type of guys that I get along with. From my experience, they are huge 'cool contests' where everyone just tries to show up everyone else. Like Ryan, I don't need to be part of a group. One guy tried to 'recruit' me on multiple occasions, but I decided to pass.

There are a few frat guys that I would hang out with on occasion, and it was okay. On the whole though...not my bag.

Yeah, I'm going to check it out during Rush or whatever. But we're talking about Purdue. Engineering. My dad was in a frat, and I'm tempted because I feel like having fun at college. He has some stories....some of which he doesn't want to share to give me any ideas.....

As far as idiots, I could join the "Triangle" fraternity.....the engineering frat. WOOT.

I just want to hear college people's opinions. Like a few of the guys I knew in high school who went to Purdue got into frats, so I'm curious if I should to. I could be an associate on the other hand, or just be friends with members so I can go to their parties still. A girl at Indiana University isnt in any sororities, but knows frat boys just to get into parties.......

              Keep the comments coming.

Unless you bring about 3 or 4 hot chicks with you, you'll have trouble getting into the frat parties, even if you're friends with a member.

Purdue boasts one of the nation's largest Greek systems, with approximately 5,000 student members holding membership in one of 50 men's fraternities or 28 women's fraternities and sororities. About 18% of Purdue's undergraduates are members of a general Greek letter organization.
                      I dunno.

One thing someone said to me got me worried. Something like:
"Engineering huh? Well, you'll have time enough for girls after college when you'll be making those bills. Get that degree and you can have your fun."

                      .....

Many, many moons ago, while a first semester freshman, I was a pledge in a fraternity. This was at a large state school where Greek life was huge. The parties were great and since all girls were allowed in (but no guys except us) the scenery was great too. Depending on the fraternity you join, they are good for two things....mixers and girls. Well it can also help later in life as you will have a large network of frat brothers that could help in getting you a job.

For me, I partied way too much and failed or dropped out of most of my classes....left that school for a small very strict private university and got kicked out......luckily grew up over the summer following and graduated 4 years later with a B.S. in Marketing. Moral of the story, if you are already grown up enough and can handle both partying & school, check 'em out during rush and see if it's for you ;)

                        Good luck!!

frats in my opinion are for people who can't leave HS behind, they need to belong to the kool click or they'r worth nothing to themselves, and are socially challenge and cannot make friends for themselves  flamming welcomed just add here____________ :D

I have too. I don't know if I'll try and join one, but I know I definatly won't freshman year.
