    Lotus Elise and muchos flamage....

While at the Unichip tuner yesterday having an MAF fitted/tuned, there was a yellow Lotus Elise having a Unichip tuned. These are a 16v mid-engined 4cyl producing 120rwhp. Anyhow peak hp is around 7k and when the tuner would let off the throttle after revving it too 5K, 6k or 7k around 1.5ft flames would shoot out the twin exhaust pipes........very cool.

Once he got it tuned and producing appx 135rwhp, there were no more flames :( Quite a sight though when it was happening.

Damn, that would have been cool to see.

    God I love the Elise.

I seen one. :) I was surprised at how small they actually are. Was he one you saw a Euro spec one, because I know for a fact that the US one puts out 190 HP. At least that is what Motor Trend says.

That would probably be the Lotus Exige, a later model hardtop with a more powerful engine. It could have also been a later model Elise since they bumped the power on those as well.

Yes this was a "Euro" model as it was in Malaysia. Anyhow, Proton or Petronas seems to have aquired Lotus some time ago, so is Lotus now a Malaysian car?? ;) Just kidding with the lads that visit the board.

EDIT: there are many around here where I live and up in Malaysia, but I find they are not kind to my height like the MX-5 Miata. The hard bucket seats are not wide enough in the hips or the shoulders. A true sports car though and meant for the track or the occasional ride through the English countryside.

Totally different motors. The US spec elise is using a Toyota motor out of the celica GTS with a retuned ECU putting out about 190 hp vs the Euro car with a Rover lump in it that puts out about 120.

Sorry for no pics, but by the time we got the camera out he had it tuned properly....thus no more flames :(

Anyhow, the Lotus Elise was the original standard model (S1) as pictured below, but in yellow like the pic in a previous post:
