    H&R/other coilover Q

I put H&R sports ans bilstein sports on my car less than a year ago, but I think I want to have coilovers for adjustability, and the ability to corner balance in the future. I don't know much about the different brands, but I'm looking for a set that comes with the strut housings so I don't have to modify them.

Is the extra cost worth it for not having to cut the tubes? Do you guys buy straight from H&R or GC, or do you use some other vendor? Thanks for the help.

And yeah, I did a search, but I couldn't figure out which ones come with strut housings.

H&R come with the strut housings, and also KW Variant Coilovers. you are looking at $1800+ for those setups.

are the advance designs any good. $1858 for front and rear true coilovers seems pretty good

Ah, I didn't know they were that pricey. Might as well just modify my struts and spend a bit on getting them powder coated.

the basic advance designs with integrated strut housings under 1600. Thats less than GC which makes you hack up your stock suspension. Get your old housings powder coated yellow and sell them as a custom bilstein set up.

nice finish. they should use a picture of yours insted of the beat up housing they have on their site lol. But where is the bump stop? gc aren't that bad in price considering you get the camber kit and rear shock mounts. i've just never really ben a big fan of koni. would love to drive someones gc e30 to compare to billy sports and h&r race springs.

Honestly, what does it matter how it looks? When I hacked mine up for the ground controls and painted them flat black. Its a part thats you cant really see with the wheels on anyway, why waste money on trying to make it all look good. Ground controls are going to be much much cheaper also.

Painting or Powdercoating them properly will help them withstand corrosion etc on a part that is next to all the crap you drive through. Also a gloss finish will let more crap slide off of it than a flat finish. You are there, you might as well make it better all around.

With the weld on kits you wont need new wheel bearings if yours are already good. If you go with the complete housings, you will need another set of front wheel bearings as well.

i would want powdercoat just for the added rust protection when i go snowboarding. if you have a non clutterd open face wheel design your houseing would be visible but i suppose the perch would not be. But i'm the type of person who would be annoyed by the smallest things. I'm unhappy with the fact that i have ugly welds on by rear subframe reinforcements. I'll probably pull out the dremmel and grind them smooth.

After realizing how much they cost with the strut housings, I stated that it wouldn't be worth it and I'd just modify mine to save money. Getting them powder coated isn't going to be very expensive, and it will protect them and make then last longer.

And I don't know about you, but if I'm spending money and time on upgrading a suspension, I want to do it right and have it look the part. I like to have my car clean on the underside too.

And holy shit, are you sure that's not a bong disguised as a strut housing?
