Foglight protection

Hey Guys,

Alright, so right off the bat, you should know. I bought my fog lights brand new (thanks again blunt) and I just got them put in a few weeks ago and even though they don't work as of yet they looked awesome with my whole "smoked" theme i'm working on.

This morning I noticed that there was a crack in my passengers side. Now seeing as I spend so much money on these damn things let alone clips from the stealership and other shit I didn't need but waiting too long to return. So to summarize, I'm very upset that this happened and would like to take steps to ensure that it doesn't happen again.

So does anyone know of any protectant that I can use to prevent the glass from shattering be it some kind of plastic cover?? my friend (bimmer_adam69) suggested I use clearcoated laminex.

Any thoughts, feedback, and advice is appreciate as usual guys. Thanks :)

Your friend (bimmer_adam69) suggested correctly. Lamin-X will save your ass.

Fair enough, but I can't help but be curious as to how the stuff works to prevent the glass from cracking or whatever?

It's a soft plastic-y film; it can both absorb some impact of its own (i.e. small stones etc) as well as help distribute load from an impact across the surface of the lens.

Custom make a grill/fence around it so it wont crack. Like the ones that come on SUVs. lol

Two words: Blue painters tape.

Everywhere. Cheap enough and works wonders to serve and protect your lights/paint finish/whatever else you cover with it.

Nothing custom. Laminx sells precut e30 foglamp protectors in several thicknesses.

All of my lights have a very thick (probably 2mm) clear film from 3M, I've never gotten a crack or chip in any of them. Fairly expensive but definitely cheaper than replacing ellipsoids or foglights.

Seriously if I were to put anything on my daily street driven car it would be some sort of lamin-x style cover. It is cheap enough, and can be applied anywhere.

My friend just got the stuff put on his new car and they covered the entire front end, very professionally, and you can't tell unless you are within 5 feet.
