It's the latter, all we have out here are shitty ecology wrecking in Fontana, Ca, Pick-A-Parts in Rialto, Ca, and a grip of trashy ass yards in Montclair/Pomona. I have one secret, private use only, no customers in the back yard here that I found some goodies at. They have a e21 320i, and about three e30's with lots o' goodies. I can just see the r3v community banding together to scour these few remaining yards. It's a domestic only, so nobody knows whats there.

Bump. Does anyone have any knowledge of any of these yards carrying vehicles newer than the '95 production year? I've been to most of the yards here in the South bay side of Los Angeles and I have yet to find any E36's and E46's/E39's. I am mainly finding E30's, E28's, few E34's, etc. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dude, it's basic economics at work. You're not likely to find many later model cars in pick n pull yards, because they can't afford to buy them!

Seriously, most pick n pull yards buy cheap ($100-500) wrecked cars for their yards. They cut the catalytic converters off and sell them ($$), then most of them have a couple of guys who spend all day in the yard pulling cores (AC compressors, alternators, starters, etc) and they sell them by the containerload (more $$). They do the same with aluminum wheels that are left on the car when it comes time to crush them (more $$) and finally, the what remains of the car after it's been picked over for a couple of weeks (or more)- they crush and sell the steel to scrap dealers for more $$$.

Most of the later model cars go to higher end "traditional" junk yards, where they will ask alot more for the parts than at the pick n pull yards. If you're looking for something specific, try www.car-part.com - basically a search engine for many different junkyards' inventory. If that doesn't work- try posting in the WTB section of BFC classifieds, you'll probably find what you need for alot cheaper than any junkyard (except maybe a pick n pull).

FWIW, I've seen a couple of E36's and E34's in pick n pull yards around here, but they are typically lower-end cars and/or have been beaten to death before they end up in the yard, so not many good parts remain anyway.

PARAMOUNT is your friend. They had a 03 vw GTI with HPA single turbo and H&R coilovers. Got the coilovers for $450. I went to pick n pull in gardena and they had a e36 325is for $999 for the whole car. I overheard them saying they were going to lower the price and if it does not sell by sunday they are going to put it with the rest of the junk cars. Aso had a super clean e34 thats going out next week.

That's pretty much what my intuition was. Thanks for the in depth response.

What is this Paramount that you speak of? Location? Also, where exactly is this yard that you keep on referring to in Gardena? The only one that I've been to in Gardena is called "U pick U save". The place is junk in terms of quantity/quality of parts and the guy that runs it is a dick to boot (not surprising for a yard). I sure hope the place you are referring is not the place that I have been to.

the one in Paramount is in the city of paramount on paramount. They would always purchase all our newer german cars from our salvage auction. The gardena one is on vermont and artesia. They are crap but the purchase from impound auctions and you can occasionally find a good car. They had a 2000 cadillac in there a couple weeks ago. But the better ones are in sun valley. and of course there is always san fernando valley but they are to far for me and i'm not looking for newer cars.
