What's the going rate for insurance on a sportbike?

Right now I'm looking at picking up a '99 or '00 R6 within the next couple of months. I checked through Progressive's online quote and it ended up being like 3600 a year, which can't be right. So how much do people usually pay for a 600 class bike?

Sure it can. Don't you have a wreck on your record?

Young kid, not clean record, probably not much of a credit report, looking at a high powered, high demand sportbike and living in the NoVa/MD/DC area where bike thefts are rather high.

    3600 doesn't surprise me.

$3600 a year? Put it in the bank and what 5 years, you'll have 20k saved and then buy bike with cash and have cheap insurance.

My Ducati 748sp BiMoto costs $553 a year through USAA, but it's only for part year and it's hardly road more than 400 km a summer. No time. It's for sale by the way 5300 euros.

the real question is, how much will your life insurance policy go up?

I have one comprehensive claim on my insurance and have no points. Plus bike theft or even car theft is rare here on the eastern shore.

I love those 748's, too bad they are like 8 grand used, plus there are no shops that will work on them within 3 hours of me.

Whereabouts on the eastern shore, Delmarva?

Coming from the NoVA/DC area, I know that bike thefts are rampant out there, and make it incredibly expensive to insure if you can't prove you have a garage or anything.

Funny one for you Charlie. My buddy came home for lunch on Base with his CBR 929RR parked it in the garage and when he came out an hour later it was gone. Hmm inside job?

He used to keep it at the shop where he bought new and they had a key for it. We suspected they needed another one and stole his with a pick up. Not hard nobody would have even noticed.

Insurance paid for it so big deal but it's whacked. PS this happened on Hanscom AFB just outside of Boston. He bought a Boxster S as a replacement.

Actually if you are under the age of 25 single and no depends even if you have no accidents and tickets you are going to be looking at spending around that much for a sport bike. My buddy's cruiser on the other hand is only 400 a year for full coverage. That being said I got my rate pretty cheap, but that is because I know a few ppl and they hooked me up. But I would not go with Progressive, they were the most expensive quotes that I got. Check State Farm, if you have a car with them as well as a bike they knock alot off for you.

                      I own a '03 R6.

I pay 290 a year for PLPD in michigan. I am 19 years old and have 9 points on my license. When I checked into full coverage, they wanted 2700 a year.

But if you are going to get the bike financed, (through a bank) and not the Yamaha Card or something similar, you must carry full coverage. Also be careful of those credit cards that they charge the bike to, I have seen alot of ppl lose their butts on them, because for the first 2 years they are like 2.9% but than after that if you don't have them paid off they are like 18.97% just fyi

i'm paying less than 50 bucks a month... but i only have Comprehensive, Uninsured Driver & Medical. I have 14 points (MA system is different.... 14 points is pretty decent for my age), I'm 24, have AAA & have taken the Motorcycle Safety Foundation rider course.

That's why you take out a personal loan to buy it. Therefore the bank doesn't know you bought a bike with the loan money. I'll probably end up getting the rents to get the loan as part of their home equity.

if this is your first bike, please don't buy an r6. buy an old cbr600 f2 or f3. an r6 will kill you. really.

as far as insurance goes, I juts have liability. I pay $185 a year (up here they compensate for the 8 months you can't really ride lol).
