I just spent 8 hours today pulling the clyinder heads off my mom's 90 Lincoln Mark VII with a 302 Ford V-8. And it SUCKED. There is no room to work and all the accesories are bolted on to the clyinder heads so you have to disconect everything on the front of the engine just to get the heads off. Her car Blew the headgasket on the passenger bank so I got Voluntered to fix it. Lukily I got everything off today so tommorow I can take the heads to the machine shop and start putting the new watter pump and some other things on while I wait for them to be cleaned and checked.

I don't know if the 5er will see the garage again or not. Hopefully the 88 325is will be next into the garage to get an Engine swap(if nothing breaks or needs replaced on any of the other 4 running cars at our house.
None of the stuff was hard to do it just sucks with no room to work with. I had troubles with the outside row of 5 head bolts as the exhuast manifold is in the way so You have to lift the manifold slide the socket on while holding the manifold out of the way then grab the breaker bar to break them loose, then the ratchet to work them loose. But in the mean time of grabbing the ratchet the socket comes off and fall into the engine bay and dosn't hit the ground, you can't see it anywhere and have to fish for it with a magnent.
Hopefully Thursday I'll start putting it back together(depending on how busy the machine shop is).85 325e 2.7 ITB'd stroker

Boy do I agree with you.
A couple months ago my stepfather blew the headgasket on one of the heads on his 85 Ford Bronco II. Maybe if he didn't overheat the POS so often it would not have happened...
Anyways after nagging me for over a week I finally agreed to do it for them (he played the "you live in my house, take up my carport, eat my food, and I don't ask much in return" card.
I pulled both heads (and most of the accesories for the same reason as you) and swapped both headgaskets and all top end gaskets. What a PITA that was... NEVER again.Tenured Automotive Service Professional - Avid BMW Enthusiast

I only plan on sticking the new headgasket in and torqueing them down and maybe installing the lower intake then I'll do the rest Friday as I"ll be Junkyard hunting Thursday.(got to pull some BMW parts to Clam My nerves, I almost threw My torque wrench threw the window when wrestling with the head bolts.85 325e 2.7 ITB'd stroker
