    importing my cab

Hey fellas, just moved back to the US after 10yrs living/working in Singapore. Anyhow, it appears that it will be too costly to import my cab since it is under 25yrs old and not mfg'd for the US market (ie, no cat, no sidemarkers, diff bumpers originally but I changed them to M-Tech II which should be ok).

Sooooooo, would any of you know if there would be a prob importing it as a parts car? I'd still like to throw it in a container and send it over, but just to be stripped of all the parts and transplanted into another donor car....not licensed for the road.

    Thanks!

    Chris

Chris get it imported to B.C. then have it brought into the US via Canada. Or pay a registered importer to federalize it.

To be imported as a parts car it can't be a driveable car.

Contact Court M3 as he brought his 323i back from Sardina so he knows the costs. I heard there are a few importers in Texas that do it for significantly less.

pm sent, but contact Wallace Enviromental Labs in Texas and they will send you a quote. Just remember, car has to be shipped to them. Took me 4 months to get my car.

                9.5k!!!! wow!
I was going to ship a 1965 Impala over here to Germany about a month ago, and with all of the importing fees, shipping and taxes, it would have run me 3,500 dollars just to get the car in my driveway, not including the price of the car-- and I thought that was expensive.
you need to just wait till it hits 25 years. put it in someones garage for a few years there.

yeah i know, but he could just use it as a parts car then which he already stated.

thanks for all the replies fellas, but SG road tax is over US$2,000 per year (incl insurance)....plus in 2009 I'd have to drop another US$13-15k for another COE (certificate of entitlement) to keep the car road worthy. As it is now if I export it I'll get around US$3-5k back from my current COE.

with all that said 9K!! OUCH!! thanks though Court, I'll contact them.

You've never seen Chris's cab!!! That will be hard to duplicate here in the states.

US wants way to much to federalize a car.
