    Used Car Sites

Im on a hunt for a new car atm, and im having trouble finding anything worthwile. Ive been to cars.com but I cant seem to find what im looking for. I have looked at some local ones, but with the same effect. Im looking for an e30, or a Mk1 or Mk2 GTi.
Is the GTi a bad chioce or are they fun cars? I dont really care about blitering acceleration, but something you can throw around easily. I hear the Mk1s are really light and take engine swaps well. Besides this im lost in the dark. Anyone want to pitch any information regarding anything about or even any suggestions, german pre '92 ish, feel free.

Mk1 and 2 VW are great. I wlaways wanted to get a GTI, but never did. Clean Mk1 GTIs are out there, but scarce (I saw a VERY clean, reasonably priced Mk 1 GTI in a classified add the other day - go to site listed at the end of the post).

Personally I would go for a early late 80s/ early 90s Mk2 16v GTI or Scirroco. Back in the days, these two cars were the THE hot hatches to get. From what I understand, the 8v variants while fun were not as peppy and the individuals who bought them always wanted the 16v.

Another very sought after model is the Jetta GLI. Basically a Golf with a trunk, Recaro seats and BBS wheels.

VWs rule for the ability to interchange parts from many different models and damn, the parts are plentiful and cheap. VW motors can be built superstrong and with amazingly high outputs.

If you want a VW, looking for info on them and see whats possible, then you need to visit the center of the online VW universe THE VW Vortex - www.vwvortex.com

They are kind of like a fwd e30 if I may say so.

In stock form they are not as fast as a 318is nor 325is. They would take an eta though. You want to go for the 16v if you go MKII. With schrick cams, bigger intake manifold, no cat and some other petty mods my friends 16v used to pull really nicely  My stock 1990 325iS was no match.

Engine swaps in dubs are just like e30s..when done with patience and sufficient resources they run right. Lots of hacked up conversions around so be wary of the ones you see around for cheap. Common transplants are the Corrado motors and VR6 swaps. The nice thing about VWs is the interchangeability of parts from the Corrado through the Audi lineup and some Porsche parts too!

All in all I'd say go for either that if you want fun German FWD pleasure or an e30 if you want RWD. They are prone to pretty much the same failures as e30s due to age but are not really at par with the build quality in certain areas...the Recaros are SWEET though..just as mentioned, don't overlook the 16v GLi Jetta...its a fun car too. Aftermarket is really widely avail. and cheaper than the e30s (in some cases)

That one in washington looks great. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1078722
And you cant beat the prices on these things, and parts. Just that I dont really like the VW name, there is something to be said for that. But if I found the right car im sure I could deal with it. If I had some vacation time I would consider going out to washington on a train or something, that would be pretty cool. Oh well, I have time to search now. The only thing is it may take some time to sell my car so, I dont want to be carless or have 2 cars sitting in the already full driveway.

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1033371 an 81' with 13k on the chassis!!!! wow thats what I call mint. Its also a just beautiful car. Just out of my range :(

          Thanks for the help guys.

You bastard, I sent you that cd for FREE, for FREE! It was like 2 bucks and that old package thing, and you dont have the commom decency to go and look at a car?
jk, but your still a slut.

Im pretty sure that if I were to get one now it would be a Mk2. Which of these have the round headlights? Or are the ones im seeing converted? I know there is a fairly in depth conversion but I dont want to do that. The round lights make the car IMO.
