help me convince my parents

i need some help with convincing my parents to let me do an engine swap this summer. i have more than enough $$ saved up (over 5g's) and now i just need to sway their opinions. i have talked to my dad about it a few times and he seems to be pretty much against it, his motto seems to be if it aint broke dont fix it, but i wont be breaking my engine as an excuse ;)

so what i need from you guys is ways i can talk my parents into allowing me to do a swap of either an m50 or m30 (i know its not a technological step up but i love m30's)

i could prolly do most of the work myself, however my mechanic is a good friend and im sure he would help me do it (he swapped engines in his e30)

help me guys, my graduation money should be for a new engine!

You budget is best suited for a m30 - cheap pleantyful power....Explain to the folks that your car IS your HOBBY, and this is something you really want to do - that you will get much enjoyment out of it...

make something up, like how your engine is prone to failure, and how you plan to keep the car through college so you need something reliable with enough power to keep up with modern traffic. Also say that once you do this swap, you won't have to work on your car as much b/c your gonna do a complete overall, -so you can devote more time to your studies.

I live and administer the site out of my parents house, but it isn't hosted here.

I don't live with people that act like my parents. My mother and step father in no way shape or form interfer with me doing whatever it is that pleases me. One of the reasons I am not in a terrible hurry to get out of my current accomidations.

Just blow the crap out of it, even if afterwards they won't let you. An M10 is cheap to come by.
Seriosly Just talk to them about why they don't want you to do so. Then explain to them how doing an Engine swap will make allow you to do more work on your BMW and not needing to take it to a mechanic and will save you money in the long run.
I live with my Parents but Like Jordon my mom dosn't interfer with what I want to do. As long as I do some work on her cars sometimes ;)
Just curiose how much work have you done your self on the BMW? If it was the first time ever doing anything major on an e30 I wouldn't go with the m30 swap as it's not as bolt and go as the M50.
