1992 VW Passat GL - hey at least its german

So with gas over 2 bucks a gallon now in NH I cant really afford my pathfinder anymore, which is ok cause Im not really to fond of it anyway. So Im looking for a cheapo replacement for it and my friend mentioned his old 92 vw passat gl. Now I know its no BMW but the price is right at only 500 bucks. Its got the 2.0 four which was recently rebuilt due to the timing belt going on it. It needs a radiator and a full brake job and its ready to roll, interior and exterior are in great shape and the motor is strong due to the recent rebuild. Only thing is that it has been sitting for a year.

Anyone know much about these cars? My interest has been perked due to its fuel economy and german engineering. I can fix it all up I think for not much money and have a decent ride. These cars lemons? Whats everyones opinion on them?

Stay away from the B3 passat. Parts are expensive. You will be amazed how a $500 purchase price can turn into $1500 very easily.

I had a B3 Passat VR6 wagon, my bro had the 2.0gl ...trust me when I say they can be a PITA..

Why don't you sell the pathfinder and buy an 325e?

Im getting an apartment next year so I cant really afford to go out and find a nice 325e that can last a while, thats why I was asking about the passat cause I can get it for like 500 bucks or lower, something I can afford
