I'm not too worried about it, but out of curiosity does an m42 use flat tappet camshafts? Anyone know if royal purple has enough of this ZDDP stuff?

I just looked into that stuff, and Royal Purple is now 'compliant' except for their extreme racing line. So at the very least the regular 'motor oil' has very low if any ZDDP in it, the racing oil's however, may have more but I can't say for sure.

o.k., but E-30's don't use flat tappet camshafts, or lifters, roller or flat...

I would call M20 cams "flat tappet" since it is metal on metal with no rollers in either the valve end or the rocker.

Zinc is a HUGE lube for metal to metal contact under high pressure. I call BS on the "premature cat failure" since many 80's cars with 200,000 miles on them are just fine....however, the price of Zinc has skyrocketed since 1990.

this shit right here is why I use "High Mileage" oils. 10X the Zinc, 1/4 the price of synthetic, plus no worries on leakage as synthetic will cause on POS seals.

As far as the "flat Tappet" thing goes, it means metal to metal contact. In a 350 V8, you can put in hydraulic lifters, which has a cushion of oil between the lifters and the pushrods so there is no metal to metal contact.

I use an additive in my car, called 'Molyslip'. Some anti-friction reducer deally. Marketed as 'Mr. Moly' in the US I believe. Good stuff!

Hydraulic lifters means that they are self adjusting, and has no bearing on metal to metal contact or not.
Roller lifters on the other hand, have a little roller on the end that runs on the cam, thus need far less lubrication.
