    Florida "Drive away" tag question.

So I've purchased a car that is currently with my brother in Miami. I'm flying down there on the 12th to pick it up. My question is, has anyone gone through this and does the information I'm about to provide sound right.

I called the office but the lady was hard to understand. I think this is what she said.

Dade County sales tax. 6% of total on bill of sale.
1% of $5000 (This is my question, if you know what is this?)
$3.10 for the temp tag to drive it back to Illinois.

I get the 6% and the $3.10 charges, but Im confused as to what I would be paying 1% of $5000 for.

If anyone could help me out that would very appreciated.

take your illinois tag down and call your insurane company before leaving to swap coverage to the new car. or else you pay tax twice..

      Drive away ?

I just went through this yesterday about buying a Subaru to take up to WV .What you can do is NOT pay the sales tax to Florida ,get title and transit tag and Drive.

yes I purchased a car from NC and drove it to florida. what I did was have him send me the title and all of the information, and then registered the car in miami. Flew to NC with the temp tag and drove it home.

If Florida will issue some kind of transit tag, do that. Otherwise, slap one of your Illinois tags on it and dont get pulled over. :-) I WOULD get the VIN and call your insurance and get an insurance card for it before you pick it up.

I bought my E30 down there and drove it back to Idaho to register it. I drove with fake plates across the U.S.. I tried to get a temp/in transit tag and they wanted me to pay 3000 for a car that i bought for 500! (i dont have a valid DL ;) Before you get a tag of any sort you need proof that the car you just bought is insured. I think thats crazy

                thats my new car. =)

As far as already having tags/insurance I dont have either at the moment, for I am carless until I pick this up. My brother did the transaction for me. I'll see if I can get him to mail the title to me before I head down there. Thanks for the information all.
