    M coupe swap in e30???

Hey im new to the whole bmw thing but I have done many vw swaps before but anyway here the thing. I found cheap M coupe engine tranny diff and etc (full swap) for
4K which I think is a good price. Its off 02 M 315hp with 29K miles on it.
I have read about the S/M 50 and 52 swaps in e30 and I know whats involved but never saw any m coupe swap so my question is if its possible with none or close to none custom work. I need some imput whats needed to do it and what would it cost excluding the engine price

    Thanks alot

Shit that's a nice price. It's a fairly complicated deal with OBDII, but it can be done without too much trouble as long as you have some common sense.

          Negative, at least AFAIK

The M coupe got the updated engine, which means S54, in 00 or 01 in the states, so '02 would certainly mean S54. (That and it has 315hp, which is S54) And I haven't heard of anyone getting that beast to work in an E30.

Robert's right. The 315HP M Coupe engine is the S54. It puts out 18HP less than it's 3er counterpart because of the exhaust/intake restrictions in the smaller car.

Figure out how to get the throttle-by-wire, among many other things to work, and you'll have it.

                  Hell, if they got an S62 to work....(in a track-only, non-street, non-DD car)

Dimensions-wise, you should be fine, so yes it will bolt up (with the proper engine mounts). If you choose to do this, then you'll pretty much be pioneering the S54 swap.

The engine will likely not fit.

The intake plenum is MASSIVE, so throw power brakes out the door for sure. Plan on twin-Tilton manual cylinders and standing on the pedal to stop the car.

The overall height of the motor is also increased on the S54, and the S50/S52's already rub the hood liner at the front of the valve cover if you have the M3-style linder. You'll likely run into problems there.

The oil pan, like all '92+ 3ers, has the sump located at the back of the motor, exactly where you'll find the steering rack on an E30. This is easily remedied by the E34 525i oil pan, which moves the sump up front, but to my knowledge that pan does not fit the S54 block, so plan on a custom fabbed oil pan as well.

The previous oil pan issue will be compounded by the oil pump pickup. Since there is no E34 S54 oil pickup, you may be doing even more fabrication while you've got the pan off.. that or dry-sump it.

The headers will never clear. The S54 has cats right up against the block practically, thus aftermarket units will be required. Those will run ya upwards of $2k i'd imagine.

The engine management is easily the largest gremlin. It will never fire. Stand-alone is the only option. Just a few weeks ago in DC, Brian Krem, the Technical Director and Engine builder for PTG, told me straight-out that factory management won't work. The good news is that PTG will sell you the setup for around $25,000.

                          Long story short: No dice.

i have a solution for height problem, but that's about all i have a solution for. you could have a special hood made kinda of like what is on the e46 M3s with the "power bulge". i wonder how that would look though. any photshoppers wanna try that one out?
