i did one in an m60 but it was out of the car. it was a piece of cake on the stand but honestly i dont think its that bad in the car. id do intake seals at the same time just to be safe. lift the whole intake with harness attached and lay it on the windshield.

I did an 850i a few months ago at work. really easy and straightforward, just have to be careful you dont pull the tube out (runs along the valey)with the pump when your removing it.

Do you mean 840i? I am talking about the V8, not the V12.

I was thinking V12, but yeah, its almost the same, did a 740 also not too long ago. almost the same job.-- actually the 740 was ALOT easier now that I think about it.

ive only done one but i would again reiterate that if youre going to be in there messing with the transfer tubes and you dont know how old the rubber seals are it would be a good time to do them as they are problematic to begin with. it would suck to button it all up and have an intake seal leak

It isn't bad, like blunt said do the transfer tubes while you are at it.

nm, I can't read. I initially read alternator, not water pump.

                    doh.

                    proceed. sry

We actually had two in the shop yesterday I believe (E38, if thats the same engine). And the techs were saying its cake for flagging somewhere along the lines of 5 hours. They had it done in 2 hours or so, if I remember correctly.
