    Mythbusters - helicopter?

So, after reading the airplane/treadmill thread, I got to wondering...

what would happen if you bolted a helicopter to the earth. Could we tow ourselves closer to the moon? discuss.

The earth would move .2746" closer every 1.234 days. The helicopter would blow up due to the high amount of stress on the motor and carrying such a heavy weight, since the earth weighs 6 X 10^24 KGs.

Plain and simple, that's my final answer.

no way, even 10 x 2^-10" would be generous

no doulble digits in the first character of scientific notation. The earth is supposed to maintain its distance from the sun with its balance of the suns gravitational pull and the centrifugal force created by the earths orbit correct? Theoretically it should be easier to tilt the earth's axis than to changes its orbit. So it would tilt 0.00000000012371567
