Got my ride back from the dealer last night after a week. I love it! :D
Thought I would share the feeling of the new parts and just how bad my shifter was.
Parts replaced:
Driveshaft, shift console mounts, shift linkage at transmission, tranny mounts (urethane), & rear tranny seal.
Symptoms:
I was having some problems with shifting. For one, the slop is more noticeable with the UUC shifter, so that was irritating. But mostly, when I was shifting hard (especially turning from a stop--1st to 2nd gear) the whole shifter pulled towards me, then popped back in when I shifted to 3rd. I thought I had a broken tranny mount. I also bought all new parts for the knuckle where the tranny meets the selector rod.
What I wasn't expecting at the dealership:
So they get to trying to take it apart, but can't get the driveshaft out of the transmission because the center bearing is rusted/corroded to the driveshaft, so it wouldn't slide out...so I needed a new driveshaft. They dropped the tranny and found the shift linkage wasn't causing the slop, it was actually the console mounts (note that my car uses the steel console, not the aluminum carrier).
Afterthoughts of parts installed:
To make a long story short, the shifter feels brand new, I have to relearn how to shift. The shifter position actually changed a little, so 1st gear is right in the middle. There is very minor slop -- 1/4" total, but must be from inside transmission parts. However, the biggest thing I noticed was how much the urethane transmission mounts from Ireland Engineering change the feel. Not necessarily in the shift feel, but upon acceleration. There is much more vibration in the seat that really gives the car a much more "race car" feel. The service guy says to me, "You know how many of the technicians took your car for a test drive?.......Every one of them."
