    E34 5 series

hi guys i know this is a e30 website but i've been searching for my e30 for awhile now and im coming up with duds after duds.

i was looking at the e34s and was wanting more info on them. they look like they are pretty good cars but i have no info on them. i was wondering if someone has any links to forums like this one for the e34. i need a four door my commuting ass so a e34 would be a good alternative.

any links and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

i would get either the newest 535 you could find, they are getting pretty hard to find with a 5 speed. or a 1995 525

bimmerforums.com has decent 5 series forums, including the E34; they're much better than the E30 section, anyway. I still pop my head in the E39 forum now and again, but 99% of my efforts are spent on my E30's now.

Here's a link to the E34 forum on bimmerforums.

        | Shadowline | Amber Fogs | Too much else to list

some of the 540i v-8 engines had a prooblem with the engines where slfer in the fuel would hurt the cylinder walls and cuase a oss of compression. you might want to check up on that. it was called like nakisil recall or something.

I just picked up a 535i 5 speed after I totaled my E30. It is a good car but I still find myself coming back here everyday. On second thought I have a nice E34 you could buy:).

540i manuals are hard to find, very few made. IIRC, they were 6 speeds.
530i Manuals are easier to find.
535i Manuals are easy to find, around me anyway.
                I wouldn't drive a 525i, no matter what year.

A little bit of a comparison.

"Both the E34 BMW 530i and 540i shared the M60 engine, which used Nikasil bore linings. In America and the United Kingdom this made both susceptible to premature engine wear, as high sulphur content in petrol in those markets resulted in deterioration of the linings. BMW then introduced an Alusil version of this engine, which solved the problem."

Most of them I have found have been recalled and fixed.

i just dont care too much for bmw v8s for that era. you can make a 535 fast enough and its a bulletproof engine. otherwise i would get a newer 525 just for a daily driver. but if you can find a limited edition m540i thats a different story.

great thanks for all of you guys inputs. the 535 is harder to find around me. most e34 are 525 and 540. i guess i will just have to wait and continue the search.

any 540 thats still running is a non issue as far as nikilsil goes.
id go for the 535 myself . i built a 540 for my mom and its a good car and i own an e39 540 sport but i dont think the bmw v8's are as good as the 6's.. tough to beat a big 6

The e34 525i 5 speed cars, although tough to find, are a blast to drive compared to the autotragic e34 525i's
