e30 door and ignition lock cylinders

Is there anything special about e30 door lock cylinders and ignition lock cylinder, or can they be re-keyed by any locksmith ?

Two of the 3 are sticking, and my ignition key is different from the door keys so I want to go ahead and remove all 3 and take it to a lock-smith .

    I want to take #4 out http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...54&hg=32&fg=30

    And # 10 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...61&hg=41&fg=40

What is #11 in the above link about ?

Searched and found this on ignition lock cylinder removal - http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...=lock+cylinder

Door lock cylinder removal - http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...=lock+cylinder

Anything else I should know ?

pretty hard to change the ignition cylinder. the black top has to be broken, i tried to have a locksmith change mine but no luck. i had to order it from the dealer.

also if you outside locks are sticking, get a new can of WD-40 and spray inside witht he red nozzle tube and turn it back and forth. a bunch of black crap will come out and it will work alot better.

Damn, I was hoping to remove 1 ignition cylinder and get it re-keyed to match the door locks VS. removing two door lock cylinders to match the ignition lock cylinder.

      I'll try wd40 tomorrow.

ive rebuilt a few cylinders on different bmws and ive found that the biggest wear item is the key itself.

Though, if you want to build the ignition lock cylinder to match the doors, hit up the yards and collect some door cylinders from a few different cars. Figure out your car's code by pulling the pins out and rebuild a new one from the junker pins you collected. Thats the free way... if you use the 5-finger ;)

when you remove the cylinder from the case put the key in it so none of the pins and springs go flying

I see that #10 is used before 9/84 and after 9/84, but the #11 is used only befre 9/84 ?

I've purchased a used door lock cylinder before from a recyler for a different car, came out to about $15 and then had a local locksmith rekey it to match ignition key for $25 and it works like new.

So, that's an idea. I'll hit up a junk yard to practice pulling a couple cylinders out and then if I find something that isn't trashed i'll just take that to a locksmith. If none of this works i guess i'll just have to order a new one from the stealer. If they quote me $55 for one then it's a good deal.
