I know the history of that car up until I sold it. In addition, I know exactly what the car was doing since I sold it 3 years ago.... It's been sitting there doing nothing. literally. The X-bf who bought the car stole the keys 3 years ago and moved to california. The car has been sitting there ever since. It's pretty disgusting, but I know i can get it fired up pretty quickly without a problem and just give it a quick detail...

I can't wait till the spring!!! Man what a rush it was to see it again for the first time in years. All the memories came back to me. it was amazing.

You're right, it is real practical.

I'm going to have the guy sign the title over to me and i'll go to BMW. I'm 100% the ignition has not been changed... or the car would have been sitting for 3 years.

I know there are problems with a car that has been sitting, but I can take care of it. No problem. This is so fucking awesome (fawesome)

you dont need an aftermarket lock, the dealer can get you an OEM lock w/key cut for your VIN number. Shouldn't be pretty straight forward if you have proof of ownership.

also, if the ignition has been replaced your SOL with the dealer. You can get them to cut you a new ignition and key to match the VIN but its gonna cost you time and money... and you still have to get the old ignition out.

a good locksmith will be able to cut you a key by trial and error within the hour for about $100

    Breaking in without smashing glass:

Get some plastic box tape (the stuff they wrap around multiple boxes to make them easier to load)

make a loop of it, slide it into the door and pull one end toward you until its looped snugly over the door lock mechanism.

Start pulling upwards, the tape will grip the extended top of the lock plastic top thingy, and voila!

sounds pretty cool man. there are ways around it other than breaking in and hotwiring. id honestly take the title to the dealer and get a key...

You could have the keys, locks and ignition out of my old car. It ended up at a local junkyard several weeks ago :(

Well sitting in one place and likely hood that it has? It's worth 15 bucks correct to get in and out of doors?

providing the ignition hasn't been changed sometime in the lifetime of the car that is .... but worth a shot for sure

Have AAA come out. They can get into it explain the situation to them.
