can I ask a huge favor for somebody in SoCal?

I live and work in Northern California in San Mateo. I've found the perfect car for me in South California, but due to the logistics involved, I was hoping someone who is knowledgable with e30's could go check out the car for me. I could pay $50 for your time and services.

The car is a 1991 318is. Please let me know as soon as possible, I'd like to fly down on Saturday and buy the car.

    Thanks,
    Michael

damn Van Nuys, thats kind of far....maybe it'd be better if someone else does it. I'll step up if no one else does though.

I'm still considering it, it's 55 miles one way, and since it's unknown territory, I wouldn't take my car, so it all lies on whether I can borrow the little sister's car that day.

Actually thinking about it more, I can drive it up to SF for you if you don't mind waiting a few more days. I was going to ride passenger with one of my friends up to SF For J's Gathering super car meet. But I can drive your potential car up.

We would leave on Thursday, the 10th.
EDIT: Correction, we leave on Friday, the 11th.

wow, that'd be something else! I'm just wondering how we would deal with payment and gas and all that stuff, considering nobody really knows each other in this 3-person deal.

PM E30Yearsold. His name is Jon and he's an awesome guy. He lives in Van Nuys and probably wouldn't mind checking it out for you. He has a couple E30's right now and knows his stuff. He also hangs out with some real E30 gurus. :D

Jon, I know I'm going out on a limb volunteering you but you're just the man for the job.

Yeah I know, all of a sudden you have to trust me a whole ton, here is what I think is the least risky for all of us:

Step 1> Jon in Van Nuys or me check it out sometime before I potentially drive it up on Friday the 11th ($50) If car checks out, continue to step 2.

Step 2> You pay the owner of the car in full with a check, paypal, or money order (because I definitely don't have that kind of cash lol)

Step 3> Pay me $75 to drive it up there, I will pay for gas going up, and give you receipts to reimburse me for gas. So $75 + $Gas

Thats not a bad deal. If I were in norcal I would do this, then again I tend to trust people very easily.

interesting... this would certainly be the weirdest transaction I've ever had, let alone for a new (to me) car!

The only downside to this I see is that I would own the car before ever looking at it. I could look at the car and think "dang, I OWN this bucket of bolts?" and there'd be no way to back out of the deal.

I can vouch that you are a good business man, and that the stickers I bought from you were perfect and recieved in a timely fashion.

I should have stuck around the OC In n out G2G longer and I could have met you in person, then I could really vouch for you.

hey Jonathon, I'll call you later today to work out some of the details. For the time being, I think I found an E30 mechanic who can go check the car out for me.
