    Exhaust changing tones?

OK, so I've wanted to ask this of the Guru's here, but at a serious chance of sounding like a serious nOOb.

Here's the deal- my 88 Cabrio, 154K now, all the tune-up parts are new, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, T belt, oil pump and pan etc. 1 Seafoam hot thru the FPR line and two cold valve adjustments in the last 10K.

The exhaust is all new front to back with a Scorpion stainless cat-back, and a new front head pipe w/single cat ( I believe OBD1 style?).

Running Mobil 1 0-40 European syn in the M20 now.

Soo, I'm wicked anal about how the car looks, sounds and smells... and it sounds like shit.

BUT, not all the time... sometimes I love the exhaust sound..but more often then not I worry that everyone around me thinks I need exhaust work.

And maybe I'm fuckin crazy, but it changes..no really..I bring it in my warm garage, check for codes, sometimes yes, sometimes no, and it sounds better as I motor off.

Then, it gets loud, wicked bassey, sometimes raspy and I'm like Damn I hate this car.

Codes I was getting consistently were for the injectors, which I discovered I had a major scab in my 6 wire pick-up, and since corrected.

Now, I get the ICV code closed code, and need to replace that and I will but don't believe this has anything to do with my motor sound. Other than that has been code free.

On that note the M20 again has gotten loud with that F'n ticking, so tomorrow AM gonna try the hot valve adjust, as I can't stand the excessive sound above 2500, and I bought a handful of new eccentrics in case I need em.

So maybe I'm way to anal bout the exhaust note, but what could make it change?

The MPG on the OBC is pretty consistent at 24 or just above.

Would bad injectors, valve seals or the brain do this from one start up to another?

Another thought is I'll comp test it tomorrow just to rule whatever out.

Any knowledgeable thoughts on this are greatly appreciated in advance..

Otherwise the stainless exhaust is for sale..

    Thanks

I know what you mean - my magnaflow setup took around 6-7months to start sounding consistent from hour to hour. Just in time for me to whack the downtube on a speed bump and get a mini leak.

I'm in the true belief that most posters on here don't even know if there Mo-tronic has stored codes...CEL only flashes for emission related (According to the source book?)...

I know my magnaflow sounds great when it is warm (it is very loud-I need either a new resonator or replace the resonator with another muffler) but it is really raspy above 2500 rpm when it is cold. Of course, scorpions in general tend to be a bit loud.
