Don't we owe China a butt load of money? I was not the greatest student in econ but i do recall their level of GDP was rapidly increasing and ours was not. The biggest thing holding them back is their population. But if the current population trends for the last 30 years continue, China will surpass the united states. Its not a question of if but when. I say we repeal some amendments and bet Bill Clinton back in office. But...... :wgaf:

GDP is not always the greatest indicator of economic health. But you're right, who gives a fuck.

Logger: If you shape up your posting habits and stick around long enough, you'll be around long enough that I will be drawing and machining my own camber plates. I will have access to the machine shop any time I want at school starting next quarter until I graduate. I'm a MET major and I'll be carefully measuring my car and designing, drawing and making camber plates. I won't be selling any though, I don't need money that bad and I don't want to deal with the hassle. But I'd be glad to provide you with the drawings.

Oh, and if you use Mozilla Firefox (web browser), it has a built in spell checker. IE may have it too, I'm assuming that's what you're using. You could benefit from automatic spell check.

So you have two "degrees" that would take about a semester each to get in the US?

Well, I have a minor in Economic Honors doing a Thesis on exchange rates and another minor in international business...

Undervalued currency. China's exports rely on what may be an unsustainably low fixed exchange rate. China has maintained its currency at a fixed rate of approximately 8.28 yuan per U.S. dollar since 1997, a rate that some economists suggest is undervalued by as much as 40 percent. There is substantial international political pressure on China to appreciate its currency. Any significant appreciation of the yuan would reduce China's export competitiveness and slow down the growth of China's exports, a major factor in China's rapid economic growth.

                                -United States Department of Agriculture
People owning them money (in their currency) will eventually increase the demand for it and even worsen the appreciation of their dollar which will hurt their economy (which is strongly reliant on export of cheap goods and labor).

Since 80% of Walmart's suppliers are in China, how fucked are they if all prices rise 40%? How much business is Walmart going to provide China if that occurs?

US/Germany/JAPAN have lower GDP growth figures but then again they are DEVELOPED nations, where as China is not. Our nations are reliable for Quality, Safety, and Labor Force Skill, which is why we (as long as we continue to educate our children properly and train) will continue to have a premium wage.

Cheap labor and sweatshops used to exist in the UK... two centuries ago. Things change.
