      Olympus Stylus 400.

      Cheap, weather-resistant, 4.1MP, rechargeable battery.

      Not too bad.

        Casio

Just picked up a Casio 4 Megapixel for $250 at Fry's (last year's model).

This year's model is 5 megapixel and about $389. Casio was one of the first with digital cameras, I remember a friend having a Casio back in 1995 or 1996, only took 12 pics though!

I highly recomend it, it is much faster then any other digital camera I have used and is the same size as the Canon Elph, read POCKET SIZE ;-) Its also simple to use for those who aren't very technical. It also will show not only a grid of your pics, but also a calender where you can select a day and look at pics for that day! Never seen this feature anywhere else...

        Hope this helps,

I have the 4 Mpixel Casio QV-R41, it's very fast and reasonably compact and very easy to use - big display. The 5 Mpix version is called QV-R51 which is probably what CarNut4BMW was talking about. I would advice against the 5 Mpix version - there is no compact camera that needs more pixels. They simply don't have the optics to fully take advantage of the resolution.

I like my new compact Casio, and I admitted before buying it that I would make a compromise with the optics. If I could live with a bulkier camera I would definately go that route and have better image quality.
