Hey guys. I have been visiting this site for a while but I had not registered until today. This site has been a good resource for me because the information here helped me get my car on the road. I spent 6 months working on it getting it back into good condition and it was a great car. At least it was a great car until I got into a 5 car accident two weeks after I got my tags! The insurance company declared it a total loss and gave me a decent settlement so I am shopping for another 325i.Does anyone have advice on which parts I should keep from the wrecked car? Is there anything on this car that is hard to find? Is there anything that goes bad or breaks often enough to save it from the other car? I wanted to keep it for parts in case I needed something for my next E30 but my neighborhood association won't allow me to keep a wrecked car on the property. Any advice would be appricated. Thanks!

If you would read what he's written, you'd know that that isn't an option in his neighborhood.
If your insurance is giving you money for it, then they own it. When I wrecked my explorer in high school, the place it was towed to only let me take my stereo out of it because I still had the stock one to put back in. You're only supposed to take things off of it if you buy it back from them.
But, they may or may not give a shit, depending on the condition of the car.

My initial plan was to find a good body so I could transfer everything over but the local mechanic wanted too much money to do it. If I rented a 20x20 space at the U-Storage I wouldn't have the time to do it myself so I think that the best solution would be to take a few items off of the car and then sell it to the junk man. I will take some pics and post them.

It wouldn't be worth it to rent out space for it.
As long as the following are in decent shape, and you have room, take them:
-Headlights(you have ellipsoids, not rare but people still want them, 88&89 were the only years with them)
-Fog lights
-Seats(even non sport can get you $100)
-front valence
-Any little thing that's in better than average shape, ie if your trim is really nice, switches, or even your tail lights. Little things, but you'll wish you had them if you buy a car that has ugly ones
-And obviously anything aftermarket
-ECU is small, and can get enough money to be worth it
If you have a lot of time and space, and it's uncracked, take the dash
I would also go through the for sale section and see what people are selling OEM parts for, just to see what's expensive to replace, and what you would wish you still had in case the next car needs itLast edited by cferb; 01-17-2008, 12:57 AM.sigpic

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions. I am going to let the E30 go now that I found a 5-series for a good price. The body is clean but it runs like crap. I'll crate the engine from the E30 and keep the ECM in case I need to do a swap. As cferb suggested, I will probably go through the WTB section to see if anyone needs anything before I call the junk man. Also feel free to PM me if any of you guys need anything.
